Judges
- Tyrone Benskin – Actor / Director Musician /Songwriter, National Vice President of ACTRA and Artistic Director of Black Theatre Workshop.
- Dr. Clarence Bayne – Professor of Business JMSBF, founding member and Vice President of BTW and poet; check out his new Release Windows of the Soul.
- Selena Iles – Musician, community organizer, youth advocate and educator as well as host of CKUT’s Bsides.
- Neil Boyce – Theatre reviewer for The Mirror.
- Tamara Brown – Montreal Actress extraordinaire
The contestants will be judged on creativity, originality and delivery.
Rules
- Each poem must be of the poet’s own construction;
- Each poet gets 3 minutes (plus a ten-second grace period) to recite one poem, if the poet goes over
- Must have creative connection to the theme
- The poet may not use props, costumes, or musical instruments
Deductions
- 2 points will be taken off of final score for anytime over the 10 second grace period
- 1 point will be taken off for content not connecting to the theme
Scoring
- Of the scores the poet received from the five judges, the high and low scores are dropped and the middle three are added together, giving the poet a total score of 0-30.
