YouthWorks provided me with a world where I could take risks, make mistakes, explore, grow and learn. I learned to be both vulnerable and brave. YouthWorks opened the door for me and made me fall in love with acting! THANK YOU!!!!

Serving as a YouthWorks facilitator gave me the opportunity to learn from and mentor many amazing and talented kids, some of whom are now working professionals. A few of them work more than I do… much more… While this makes me feel incredibly old it also warms my aging heart.

Black Theatre Works
hop’s YouthWorks is where I discovered the stage and developed my talents. Through powerful mentorship by skillful artists I was able to make an entrance into Theatre, Film, Poetry and Music. I am now touring internationally as a recording artist with my albums being sold in stores across the world. The training I received at YouthWorks launched my artistic career. I use techniques and skills I learned at Black Theatre Workshop in each performance, on every stage and in all of my written compositions.
- Jonathan Emile, YW alumnus 2007, International Recording Artist & CEO Mindpeacelove Inc.

Youthworks is an excellent program. It affords its participants the opportunity to grow into great performers but more importantly to learn about their culture and themselves. As a facilitator over the years it has been my honour to watch so many young people transform into awesome performers and consistently exceed all expectations.
-Jason Selman, YW Facilitator, Musician, Poet.

I thought I was just taking another acting class, but I ended up embarking on an incredible journey of self-discovery. A journey that has forced me to go to places I had never been before, leaving me with a newfound approach and understanding of my craft. The work was addressed in a way that was personal, raw, and unique. I was completely submerged in a comfortable environment, where I learned not to fear awkwardness or unconventional creativity, instead embracing my differences and feelings as an actor. I became aware of my body and my voice and learned to sync them harmoniously with emotions to get where I needed to be.
– Jeremy Lacombe, YouthWorks graduate 2011, Actor
